Whoever learns the Names of Allah and lives by their meaning is promised Paradise.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has 99 Names, one hundred minus one. Whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise.” (al-Bukhari 2736, Muslim 2677)
But that does not mean Allah has only 99 Names.
If you say you have 100 dollars to give in charity, it does not mean you have only 100 dollars.
The Prophet ﷺ himself called upon Allah by all His Names, including those Allah kept for Himself in the knowledge of the unseen.
The list of 99 Names seen everywhere comes from one version of the hadith in at-Tirmidhi.
That list was added by a narrator, who chose the names that seemed most fitting to him.
So how do you know whether a Name is truly a Name of Allah?
It takes a verse of the Qur'an or an authentic hadith.
Allah says: “And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them…” (Qur'an 7:180)
You want forgiveness? You call on Him by His Name Al-Ghafûr, the All-Forgiving.
You know that Allah hears everything? Then you watch what you say.
The more you know Allah, the more you love Him, the more you hope in Him, the more you fear Him.

إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ
Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

Living this NameKnowing this Name leads one to worship Him alone, to love Him above all else and to devote everything one does to Him. Every act of worship takes its value only when it is consecrated to Him.
ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful,
Qur'an · Al-Faatiha 1:3
Living this NameWhoever knows that His mercy embraces all things never despairs of it, whatever his sin. He shows mercy himself, for Allah has mercy on those who show mercy.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَلِّى عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتُهُۥ لِيُخْرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ ۚ وَكَانَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَحِيمًۭا
It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, the Most Merciful.
Qur'an · Al-Ahzaab 33:43
Living this NameHis special mercy is earned through faith and obedience. The believer seeks it in prayer, in the Quran and in doing good to creatures.
فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًۭا
So high [above all] is Allah, the King, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
Qur'an · Taa-Haa 20:114
Living this NameKnowing that sovereignty belongs to Him frees the heart from fear of creatures and from attachment to possessions. One asks the true King, and submits to His commands.
يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْمَلِكِ ٱلْقُدُّوسِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah, the King, the Most Holy, the Invincible, the Wise.
Qur'an · Al-Jumu'a 62:1
Living this NameHe is free of every flaw, so one glorifies Him without ever attributing to Him what does not befit Him. Saying subhanallah is the heart's response to this Name.
هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَٰمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the King, the Most Holy, the One Free of Every Flaw, the Giver of Security, the Guardian of All, the Invincible, the One Whose Will Prevails, the Possessor of Greatness. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

Living this NameFrom Him comes the peace of the heart. Whoever calls upon Him by this Name after every prayer seeks from Him safety in this world and the next, and spreads peace around him.

Living this NameHe confirmed His messengers with proofs, so believing in them is a certainty. Whoever knows this Name seeks security from Him alone and refrains from frightening a Muslim.

Living this NameHe sees every deed and hears every word. The believer who remembers this watches over his heart and his limbs as if he could see Him.
وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّۢ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Invincible, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Yaseen 36:38
Living this NameAll might belongs to Him, so one seeks honor from Him alone, through obedience and not through creatures. Whoever relies on Him fears neither humiliation nor defeat.

Living this NameHe mends broken hearts and sets right what is weak. Whoever knows this Name turns to Him in hardship and refuses all tyranny toward others.

Living this NameGreatness belongs to Him alone. The servant who knows this strips himself of it, humbles himself before Him and flees pride, which closes the door of Paradise.

Living this NameEvery creature bears witness to His knowledge and His wisdom. Reflecting on creation leads one to recognize Him, to worship Him and to associate nothing with Him.

Living this NameHe brought every being into existence without any prior model. Whoever reflects on his own existence sees in it a gift and responds with gratitude.

Living this NameHe gave each one his form and his features. The believer accepts the form He has given him, refrains from mocking that of others and thanks Him for what he has received.
هُوَ ٱلْأَوَّلُ وَٱلْءَاخِرُ وَٱلظَّٰهِرُ وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
He is the First and the Last, the One Above All and the One from Whom Nothing Is Hidden, and He is, of all things, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Al-Hadid 57:3
Living this NameBefore Him there was nothing, so every good began with Him. The servant traces every blessing back to its first source and thanks Him first.
هُوَ ٱلْأَوَّلُ وَٱلْءَاخِرُ وَٱلظَّٰهِرُ وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
He is the First and the Last, the One Above All and the One from Whom Nothing Is Hidden, and He is, of all things, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Al-Hadid 57:3
Living this NameEverything passes away, He remains. Whoever knows this does not place his hope in what passes and prepares to meet the One who remains.
هُوَ ٱلْأَوَّلُ وَٱلْءَاخِرُ وَٱلظَّٰهِرُ وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

Living this NameHe is above all things, nothing equals Him or prevails over Him. The heart turns upward in supplication, confident that nothing is above Him.
هُوَ ٱلْأَوَّلُ وَٱلْءَاخِرُ وَٱلظَّٰهِرُ وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
He is the First and the Last, the One Above All and the One from Whom Nothing Is Hidden, and He is, of all things, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Al-Hadid 57:3
Living this NameHe is near and knows the secrets of hearts. The servant purifies his intention, for what he hides is as visible to Him as what he shows.
قَدْ سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ قَوْلَ ٱلَّتِى تُجَٰدِلُكَ فِى زَوْجِهَا وَتَشْتَكِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ يَسْمَعُ تَحَاوُرَكُمَآ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is the All-Hearing and the All-Seeing.
Qur'an · Al-Mujaadila 58:1
Living this NameHe hears the whispered complaint and the silent supplication. So one calls upon Him with confidence, and watches one's tongue, for no word escapes Him.
فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا وَمِنَ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ أَزْوَٰجًۭا ۖ يَذْرَؤُكُمْ فِيهِ ۚ لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌۭ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
Qur'an · Ash-Shura 42:11
Living this NameHe sees every deed, in the light as in the dark. Whoever knows this acts uprightly when he is alone, and knows that his effort is seen.
وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَنِعْمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ
But if they turn away - then know that Allah is the Protecting Master. Excellent is the Protecting Master, and Excellent is the Helper.
Qur'an · Al-Anfaal 8:40
Living this NameHe protects and supports those who obey Him. The believer seeks His protection through faith and says, in hardship, He is our Protecting Master.
وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَنِعْمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ
But if they turn away - then know that Allah is the Protecting Master. Excellent is the Protecting Master, and Excellent is the Helper.
Qur'an · Al-Anfaal 8:40
Living this NameVictory comes from Him alone. Whoever knows this relies on no strength without Him, supports His religion and asks Him for help in every difficulty.
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِى ٱشْتَرَىٰهُ مِن مِّصْرَ لِٱمْرَأَتِهِۦٓ أَكْرِمِى مَثْوَىٰهُ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَنفَعَنَآ أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدًۭا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ مِن تَأْوِيلِ ٱلْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرِهِۦ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
And the one from Egypt who bought him said to his wife, "Make his residence comfortable. Perhaps he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son." And thus, We established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allah is the One Who Always Prevails over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
Qur'an · Yusuf 12:21
Living this NameHis decrees come to pass despite every plan. The believer does not fear the plots of men and entrusts himself to the One whose will always prevails.
إِن تُبْدُوا۟ خَيْرًا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ أَوْ تَعْفُوا۟ عَن سُوٓءٍۢ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّۭا قَدِيرًا
If [instead] you show [some] good or conceal it or pardon an offense - indeed, Allah is ever the Pardoner and the All-Powerful.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:149
Living this NameHe erases the sins of those who turn to Him. One asks Him to erase them, especially on the nights of great worth, and learns to erase the wrongs one has suffered.
لِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۢ
To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them. And He is the All-Powerful over all things.
Qur'an · Al-Maaida 5:120
Living this NameNothing is impossible for Him. Whoever knows this asks Him without limit, and despairs of no situation, however closed it may be.
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْۦِىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
Qur'an · Al-Qiyaama 75:40
Living this NameHe can raise the dead just as He created them. Believing in His power strengthens certainty in the Last Day and the preparation for that day.
لَّا تُدْرِكُهُ ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ ٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle and Kind, the Knower of Hidden Realities.
Qur'an · Al-An'aam 6:103
Living this NameHe grants His blessings through ways one does not see. Whoever knows this discerns His kindness in trials and trusts Him with what he does not understand.
أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle and Kind, the Knower of Hidden Realities?
Qur'an · Al-Mulk 67:14
Living this NameHe knows the depths of things and what hearts keep silent. The servant watches over the sincerity of his heart, for that is what He looks at.
لِلَّهِ تِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ اسْمًا، مَنْ حَفِظَهَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
Allah has ninety-nine Names, whoever memorizes them will enter Paradise, and Allah is Witr, He loves the odd number.
Hadith · Muslim 2677, al-Bukhari 6410
Living this NameHe is unique, and He loves the odd number. The believer devotes to Him an undivided heart and loves the acts of worship He loves, such as the witr prayer.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ
Allah is Beautiful and He loves beauty.
Hadith · Muslim 91
Living this NameHis beauty is perfect and He loves beauty. The believer beautifies his heart, his speech and his appearance, without pride, and hopes to behold His Face in Paradise.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَيِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ، يَسْتَحْيِي إِذَا رَفَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْهِ أَنْ يَرُدَّهُمَا صِفْرًا خَائِبَتَيْنِ
Allah is Modest and Generous, when a man raises his hands to Him, He is too modest to return them empty and disappointed.

Living this NameHe is too modest to return hands raised toward Him with nothing in them. So the servant raises his hands with hope, and is ashamed to disobey the One who showers him with gifts.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَيِيٌّ سِتِّيرٌ، يُحِبُّ الْحَيَاءَ وَالسَّتْرَ
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is Modest and Concealing, He loves modesty and concealment.
Hadith · Abu Dawud 4012, an-Nasa'i 406 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHe conceals the faults of His servants and loves modesty. Whoever knows this conceals the faults of others, hides his own and avoids displaying them.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ هُوَ ٱلْبَٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
That is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Great.
Qur'an · Al-Hajj 22:62
Living this NameBefore His greatness, all greatness is small. To say Allahu akbar in prayer is to acknowledge that nothing deserves to occupy the heart more than He does.
عَٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ٱلْمُتَعَالِ
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Great, the Most Exalted.
Qur'an · Ar-Ra'd 13:9
Living this NameHe is exalted above all things. The servant exalts Him above every flaw, raises his hands toward Him and lowers himself in prostration before the One who is above.
يَٰصَىٰحِبَىِ ٱلسِّجْنِ ءَأَرْبَابٌۭ مُّتَفَرِّقُونَ خَيْرٌ أَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّارُ
O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allah, the One, the Supreme Subduer?
Qur'an · Yusuf 12:39
Living this NameHe is unique in His lordship and His right to be worshipped. Whoever knows this calls upon Him alone, fears Him alone and sacrifices for Him alone.
يَوْمَ هُم بَٰرِزُونَ ۖ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ شَىْءٌۭ ۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Supreme Subduer.
Qur'an · Ghafir 40:16
Living this NameEverything is subject to His dominion. Whoever knows this subjects his desires to His command and fears no creature, for all are subdued by Him.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّهُۥ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَأَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ
That is because Allah is the Truth and because He gives life to the dead and because He is the All-Powerful over all things

Living this NameHis existence, His word and His promise are true. The believer builds his life on what is true and rejects all falsehood in his belief and his deeds.
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يُوَفِّيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ ٱلْمُبِينُ
That Day, Allah will pay them in full their deserved recompense, and they will know that it is Allah who is the Truth, the Manifest.
Qur'an · An-Noor 24:25
Living this NameHis oneness is evident in every sign. Whoever knows this recognizes the proofs around him and sets out the truth clearly, without hiding it.
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۗ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ حَدِيثًۭا
Allah - there is no deity except Him. He will surely assemble you for [account on] the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who is more truthful than Allah in statement.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:87
Living this NameHis word is the most truthful. The believer takes Him at His word, trusts His promises and holds fast to truthfulness himself.
كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَغْلِبَنَّ أَنَا۠ وَرُسُلِىٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌۭ
Allah has written, "I will surely overcome, I and My messengers." Indeed, Allah is the Strong and the Invincible.
Qur'an · Al-Mujaadila 58:21
Living this NameAll strength comes from Him. Whoever knows this takes no pride in his own strength, seeks it from Him and says, there is no strength except through Allah.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ
Indeed, it is Allah who is the Great Provider, the possessor of strength, the Unshakeable.
Qur'an · Adh-Dhaariyat 51:58
Living this NameHis strength never weakens. The servant leans on Him without fear of seeing Him fail, and perseveres in obedience without tiring.
وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱلْحَىِّ ٱلَّذِى لَا يَمُوتُ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِهِۦ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًا
And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die, and exalt [Allah] with His praise. And sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants, Acquainted -
Qur'an · Al-Furqaan 25:58
Living this NameHis life is perfect and knows no death. The believer entrusts himself to the Ever-Living who does not die, and calls upon Him by this Name in moments of distress.
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of All.
Qur'an · Aal-i-Imraan 3:2
Living this NameHe sustains everything in existence and depends on nothing. Whoever knows this entrusts his affairs to Him, for everything depends on Him and He depends on no one.
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Magnificent.
Qur'an · Ash-Shura 42:4
Living this NameHe is above His creation. The servant directs his supplication upward to Him, glorifies Him in prostration and places His word above all others.
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Magnificent.
Qur'an · Ash-Shura 42:4
Living this NameHis greatness surpasses imagination. The heart that knows it fills with reverence, and the tongue glorifies Him in the bowing of the prayer.
لِيُوَفِّيَهُمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَيَزِيدَهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ غَفُورٌۭ شَكُورٌۭ
That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them of His bounty. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving and the Abundant Rewarder.
Qur'an · Faatir 35:30
Living this NameHe generously rewards the smallest good deed. Whoever knows this neglects no good, however small, and in turn thanks those who do good to him.
۞ قَوْلٌۭ مَّعْرُوفٌۭ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ خَيْرٌۭ مِّن صَدَقَةٍۢ يَتْبَعُهَآ أَذًۭى ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِىٌّ حَلِيمٌۭ
Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is the Self-Sufficient and the Forbearing.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:263
Living this NameHe does not hasten to punish and leaves time for repentance. Whoever knows this does not feel safe on that account, returns quickly to Him and shows forbearance toward others.
وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْمَشْرِقُ وَٱلْمَغْرِبُ ۚ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّوا۟ فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ
And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face of Allah. Indeed, Allah is the Vast and the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:115
Living this NameHis mercy and His generosity have no limit. The believer asks Him abundantly, without restricting his hope, and opens his heart to others.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مُّحِيطًۭا
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah, of all things, the All-Encompassing.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:126
Living this NameNothing escapes His knowledge or His power. Whoever knows this knows he is always under His gaze and entrusts himself to the All-Encompassing.
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَآ إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
They said, "Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the All-Knowing, the Wise."
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:32
Living this NameHe knows everything, the past, the present and the future. The servant accepts His decrees with confidence, for He knows what is good for him, and asks Him for beneficial knowledge.
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَٰتٍۢ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepter of Repentance, the Most Merciful.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:37
Living this NameHe turns toward the one who turns to Him. Whoever knows this never delays repentance, and knows that the door remains open as long as the soul has not reached the throat.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِلَٰهٌۭ وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَٰهٌۭ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
And it is Allah who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity. And He is the Wise, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Az-Zukhruf 43:84
Living this NameEvery decree rests on a wisdom, even when it is hidden. The believer accepts what he does not understand and submits to His laws with confidence.
۞ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ أَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
Qur'an · Faatir 35:15
Living this NameHe needs nothing, and all are in need of Him. The servant acknowledges his poverty before Him, asks Him alone and knows that his worship benefits only himself.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
Qur'an · Al-Infitaar 82:6
Living this NameHis generosity exceeds every expectation. Whoever knows this asks without embarrassment, hopes for the best from Him and shows generosity toward others.
قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] the One Without Equal,
Qur'an · Al-Ikhlaas 112:1
Living this NameHe has neither equal nor likeness. The believer reserves his worship for Him without any partner, and repeats the surah that proclaims His oneness.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ
Allah, the One All Turn To.
Qur'an · Al-Ikhlaas 112:2
Living this NameAll needs rise up to Him. Whoever knows this addresses his requests to Him before any creature, and perseveres in supplication.
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِى عَنِّى فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِى وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am the Near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:186
Living this NameHe is near to the one who calls upon Him. The servant calls upon Him without intermediary or shouting, with confidence, knowing that He hears and answers.
۞ وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَٰلِحًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ هُوَ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا فَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى قَرِيبٌۭ مُّجِيبٌۭ
And to Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. He has produced you from the earth and settled you in it, so ask forgiveness of Him and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is the Near and the Answerer of Prayers."
Qur'an · Hud 11:61
Living this NameHe answers supplications. Whoever knows this multiplies his requests, never tires of supplicating and accepts the answer in the form He chooses.
۞ قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
Qur'an · Az-Zumar 39:53
Living this NameHis forgiveness is immense. The believer never despairs of His mercy, whatever his sin, and asks for forgiveness every day.
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى رَحِيمٌۭ وَدُودٌۭ
And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is the Most Merciful and the Loving and Beloved."
Qur'an · Hud 11:90
Living this NameHe loves His believing servants and they love Him. The servant seeks His love through the deeds He loves and in turn loves those whom He loves.
ٱللَّهُ وَلِىُّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُمُ ٱلطَّٰغُوتُ يُخْرِجُونَهُم مِّنَ ٱلنُّورِ إِلَى ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ ۗ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ
Allah is the Protector of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve - their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:257
Living this NameHe takes charge of those who believe. Whoever knows this seeks His protection through faith and good deeds, and does not take the enemies of Allah as allies.
لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
Qur'an · Luqman 31:26
Living this NameHe deserves praise in every circumstance. The believer praises Him in ease as in hardship, and begins everything with al-hamdu lillah.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍۢ
And those who take as allies other than Him - Allah is [yet] the Preserver over them; and you, [O Muhammad], are not over them a manager.
Qur'an · Ash-Shura 42:6
Living this NameHe preserves His creation and protects the faith of His servants. Whoever knows this entrusts to Him his religion, his family and his possessions, and preserves the limits He has set.
قَالَ هَلْ ءَامَنُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا كَمَآ أَمِنتُكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَخِيهِ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ فَٱللَّهُ خَيْرٌ حَٰفِظًۭا ۖ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under coercion] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But Allah is the best Guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful."
Qur'an · Yusuf 12:64
Living this NameHe is the best guardian. The believer hands over to Him what he cannot guard himself, and recites the supplications of protection every evening.
قَالُوٓا۟ أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ رَحْمَتُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَٰتُهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَمِيدٌۭ مَّجِيدٌۭ
They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allah? May the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is the Praiseworthy and the Glorious."
Qur'an · Hud 11:73
Living this NameHis attributes are glorious and His blessings immense. The servant glorifies Him by His Names and asks His blessing upon the Prophet ﷺ as He has taught.
قُلْ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَا رَبُّنَا ثُمَّ يَفْتَحُ بَيْنَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُوَ ٱلْفَتَّاحُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
Say, "Our Lord will bring us together; then He will judge between us in truth. And He is the Opener, the All-Knowing."
Qur'an · Saba 34:26
Living this NameHe opens the doors of provision, knowledge and good. Whoever knows this knocks at His door, and knows that He will judge between people with justice.
ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ
To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is the Witness.
Qur'an · Al-Burooj 85:9
Living this NameHe is witness to every deed. The believer who knows this keeps his word, does not lie and performs his deeds as if before a witness who sees everything.
أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
You are the One Who Brings Forward and You are the One Who Delays, there is no deity but You.
Hadith · al-Bukhari 1120, Muslim 769
Living this NameHe brings forward whom He wills. The servant does not envy those He has raised and asks Him to bring forward his own good deeds.
أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
You are the One Who Brings Forward and You are the One Who Delays, there is no deity but You.
Hadith · al-Bukhari 1120, Muslim 769
Living this NameHe delays what He wills according to His wisdom. Whoever knows this is patient when a good thing is delayed, and asks forgiveness for what he has put forward and what he has put back, as the Prophet ﷺ did.
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
In a seat of honor near the Absolute Sovereign, the Omnipotent.
Qur'an · Al-Qamar 54:55
Living this NameHis kingship is perfect. Whoever knows this fears neither the loss of a possession nor the disfavor of a king, for everything belongs to the Absolute Sovereign.
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
In a seat of honor near the Absolute Sovereign, the Omnipotent.
Qur'an · Al-Qamar 54:55
Living this NameNothing can prevent what He wills. The servant entrusts to Him what is beyond his strength, and does not fear those who oppose His religion.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْمُسَعِّرُ الْقَابِضُ الْبَاسِطُ الرَّازِقُ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْقَى اللَّهَ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ يُطَالِبُنِي بِمَظْلَمَةٍ فِي دَمٍ وَلَا مَالٍ
Allah is indeed the Setter of Prices, the One Who Restricts, the One Who Gives Abundantly, the Provider. I hope to meet Allah without any of you having a claim against me for an injustice concerning blood or property.

Living this NameHe restricts provision according to His wisdom. The believer accepts hardship without bitterness, knowing that it comes from the One who knows what is right for him.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْمُسَعِّرُ الْقَابِضُ الْبَاسِطُ الرَّازِقُ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْقَى اللَّهَ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ يُطَالِبُنِي بِمَظْلَمَةٍ فِي دَمٍ وَلَا مَالٍ
Allah is indeed the Setter of Prices, the One Who Restricts, the One Who Gives Abundantly, the Provider. I hope to meet Allah without any of you having a claim against me for an injustice concerning blood or property.

Living this NameHe expands provision for whom He wills. Whoever receives ease thanks Him, lets others benefit from it and does not believe it is due to his own efforts alone.
وَهُوَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ
And He is the Subduer over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Knower of Hidden Realities.
Qur'an · Al-An'aam 6:18
Living this NameHe subdues all things. The servant bows before His authority, does not rebel against His decrees and fears no subduer besides Him.
يَحْشُرُ اللَّهُ الْعِبَادَ، فَيُنَادِيهِمْ بِصَوْتٍ يَسْمَعُهُ مَنْ بَعُدَ كَمَا يَسْمَعُهُ مَنْ قَرُبَ، أَنَا الْمَلِكُ، أَنَا الدَّيَّانُ
Allah will gather the servants and call them with a voice heard by those far away as by those near, I am the King, I am the Requiter.

Living this NameEveryone will be requited for his deeds. Whoever knows this judges himself before he is judged and avoids all injustice toward others.
مَّا يَفْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَءَامَنتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًۭا
What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is Allah the Rewarder and the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:147
Living this NameHe lets no good deed go to waste. Whoever knows this multiplies small good deeds and perseveres, certain that nothing is lost with Him.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، الْمَنَّانُ، بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ، يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ
O Allah, I ask You by the fact that all praise belongs to You, there is no deity but You, the Bestower of Blessings, Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of All.

Living this NameHe grants His blessings without asking anything in return. The servant calls upon Him by this Name as the Prophet ﷺ taught, and acknowledges that he deserves nothing of what he receives.
أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Abundant Creator, the All-Knowing.
Qur'an · Yaseen 36:81
Living this NameHe creates ceaselessly and without tiring. Whoever knows this doubts neither the resurrection nor His ability to renew his situation.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ
Indeed, it is Allah who is the Great Provider, the possessor of strength, the Unshakeable.
Qur'an · Adh-Dhaariyat 51:58
Living this NameHe feeds all creatures. Whoever knows this seeks his provision only through what is lawful, and does not fear that it will fail him.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْمُسَعِّرُ الْقَابِضُ الْبَاسِطُ الرَّازِقُ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَلْقَى اللَّهَ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ يُطَالِبُنِي بِمَظْلَمَةٍ فِي دَمٍ وَلَا مَالٍ
Allah is indeed the Setter of Prices, the One Who Restricts, the One Who Gives Abundantly, the Provider. I hope to meet Allah without any of you having a claim against me for an injustice concerning blood or property.
Hadith · Abu Dawud 3451, at-Tirmidhi 1314 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHe is the source of all provision. The believer asks Him alone, spends in His way without fear of want, and knows that what he gives will be replaced.
ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ ٱلْوَكِيلُ
Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the One to Rely On."
Qur'an · Aal-i-Imraan 3:173
Living this NameHe suffices whoever relies on Him. Whoever knows this takes the means and then entrusts the outcome to Him, and says, Allah is sufficient for me, He is the One to Rely On.
وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا عَٰهَدتُّمْ وَلَا تَنقُضُوا۟ ٱلْأَيْمَٰنَ بَعْدَ تَوْكِيدِهَا وَقَدْ جَعَلْتُمُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفِيلًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allah, over you, the Guarantor. Indeed, Allah knows what you do.
Qur'an · An-Nahl 16:91
Living this NameHe guarantees the pledges made before Him. The servant keeps his promises and his oaths, and knows that what Allah has guaranteed never fails.
أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبْدَهُۥ ۖ وَيُخَوِّفُونَكَ بِٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍۢ
Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant [Prophet Muhammad]? And [yet], they threaten you with those [they worship] other than Him. And whoever Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.
Qur'an · Az-Zumar 39:36
Living this NameHe suffices His servants. Whoever knows this turns to no creature for what Allah alone can give, and finds in Him the answer to every worry.
مَا قُلْتُ لَهُمْ إِلَّا مَآ أَمَرْتَنِى بِهِۦٓ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبَّكُمْ ۚ وَكُنتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًۭا مَّا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ ۖ فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِى كُنتَ أَنتَ ٱلرَّقِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَأَنتَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ
I said not to them except what You commanded me - to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Watchful over them, and You are, over all things, the Witness.
Qur'an · Al-Maaida 5:117
Living this NameHe observes every gesture and every thought. Whoever knows this watches over himself, and does good as if he could see Him.
وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍۢ فَحَيُّوا۟ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَآ أَوْ رُدُّوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَسِيبًا
And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner]. Indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, the Sufficient, the Reckoner.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:86
Living this NameHe suffices His servants and will call them to account. The believer finds in Him what suffices him, and calls himself to account before the Day of Reckoning.
أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، اشْفِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Remove the harm, Lord of mankind, heal, You are the Healer, there is no healing but Yours, a healing that leaves no illness behind.
Hadith · al-Bukhari 5743, Muslim 2191
Living this NameAll healing comes from Him. Whoever knows this takes remedies but places his hope in Him alone, and calls upon the Healer for himself and for the sick.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ، وَيُعْطِي عَلَى الرِّفْقِ مَا لَا يُعْطِي عَلَى الْعُنْفِ، وَمَا لَا يُعْطِي عَلَى مَا سِوَاهُ
Allah is Gentle and He loves gentleness. He grants through gentleness what He does not grant through harshness, nor through anything else.
Hadith · Muslim 2593
Living this NameHe loves gentleness and gives through it what He does not give through harshness. Whoever knows this acts gently toward his family, toward creatures and toward himself.
مَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ، وَاللَّهُ الْمُعْطِي وَأَنَا الْقَاسِمُ
The one for whom Allah wants good, He gives him understanding of the religion. Allah is the Giver and I am only the distributor.
Hadith · al-Bukhari 3116
Living this NameHe gives to whom He wills. Whoever knows this does not envy those who have received, asks the Giver and distributes what he has received.
مَّن يَشْفَعْ شَفَٰعَةً حَسَنَةًۭ يَكُن لَّهُۥ نَصِيبٌۭ مِّنْهَا ۖ وَمَن يَشْفَعْ شَفَٰعَةًۭ سَيِّئَةًۭ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كِفْلٌۭ مِّنْهَا ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مُّقِيتًۭا
Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a reward therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a burden therefrom. And ever is Allah, over all things, the Nourisher and Preserver.
Qur'an · An-Nisaa 4:85
Living this NameHe nourishes every creature and knows its needs. The servant thanks Him for every meal and knows that what nourishes him comes from Him.
السَّيِّدُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى
The Master is Allah, Blessed and Exalted.
Hadith · Abu Dawud 4806 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHe is the Absolute Master. Whoever knows this attributes this mastery to no creature, and submits to Him alone as a servant to his master.
أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ طَيِّبٌ لَا يَقْبَلُ إِلَّا طَيِّبًا
O people, Allah is Pure and He accepts only what is pure.
Hadith · Muslim 1015
Living this NameHe is pure and accepts only what is pure. The believer purifies his food, his earnings, his words and his deeds, so that his supplication may be answered.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَكَمُ وَإِلَيْهِ الْحُكْمُ
Allah is the Judge, and to Him belongs the judgment.
Hadith · Abu Dawud 4955, an-Nasa'i 5387 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHis judgment is perfect and beyond appeal. The servant accepts His verdict in the law and in destiny, and judges between people according to what He has revealed.
ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ
Recite, and your Lord is the Most Generous -
Qur'an · Al-Alaq 96:3
Living this NameHis generosity surpasses all generosity. Whoever knows this asks Him for the greatest things without embarrassment, and gives generously in turn.
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Benevolent, the Most Merciful."
Qur'an · At-Tur 52:28
Living this NameHis goodness envelops His servants. Whoever knows this acknowledges His blessings, shows kindness to his parents and spreads good around him.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ مُحْسِنٌ يُحِبُّ الْإِحْسَانَ
Allah does good with excellence and He loves excellence.
Hadith · at-Tabarani, as-Sahihah 469 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHe created everything with excellence and loves excellence. The servant does everything as well as he can, worships Allah as if he could see Him and does good to creatures.
وَإِنِّى لَغَفَّارٌۭ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحًۭا ثُمَّ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
But indeed, I am the Ever-Forgiving of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
Qur'an · Taa-Haa 20:82
Living this NameHe forgives again and again. Whoever knows this returns to Him after every sin without tiring, and never lets sin rob him of hope.
وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is the Most Kind and the Most Merciful.
Qur'an · An-Noor 24:20
Living this NameHis compassion is immense. Whoever knows this shows compassion toward the weak, and knows that the trials of Allah carry a hidden compassion.
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ
[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower of Gifts.
Qur'an · Aal-i-Imraan 3:8
Living this NameHe multiplies gifts without asking anything in return. The believer asks Him for the gifts that He alone can give, guidance and mercy, and gives himself without expecting anything back.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَوَادٌ يُحِبُّ الْجُودَ، وَيُحِبُّ مَعَالِيَ الْأَخْلَاقِ، وَيَكْرَهُ سَفْسَافَهَا
Allah is Bountiful and He loves generosity. He loves the noblest character and detests the basest.
Hadith · al-Bayhaqi, Sahih al-Jami' 1800 · sahih per al-Albani
Living this NameHis bounty reaches all beings. Whoever knows this aims for the noblest character, gives generously and flees meanness.
سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ، رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ
Most Pure, Most Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit.
Hadith · Muslim 487
Living this NameHe is free of every imperfection. The servant glorifies Him in bowing and prostration, and keeps away from Him everything that does not befit Him.
وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِى فَرْدًۭا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of Inheritors."
Qur'an · Al-Anbiyaa 21:89
Living this NameEverything one possesses returns to Him. Whoever knows this does not cling to possessions, spends for the Hereafter and does not fear death.
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, the Lord of the worlds -
Qur'an · Al-Faatiha 1:2
Living this NameHe creates, owns and governs. The servant calls upon Him by this Name, as the prophets did, and knows that He takes care of him better than he does himself.
سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Highest of All,
Qur'an · Al-A'laa 87:1
Living this NameHe is above all things. The believer glorifies Him in prostration by this Name, and in his eyes nothing equals what comes from Him.
وَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌۭ وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Qur'an · Al-Baqara 2:163
Living this NameHe alone is worthy of worship. Whoever knows this lives by la ilaha illallah, prostrates before no one else and fears Him alone.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِىٍّ عَدُوًّۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ هَادِيًۭا وَنَصِيرًۭا
And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient is your Lord as the Guide and the Helper.
Qur'an · Al-Furqaan 25:31
Living this NameHe guides to the truth. The servant asks Him for guidance in every prayer and knows that without Him he would go astray.
۞ ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٰةٍۢ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ ۖ ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ فِى زُجَاجَةٍ ۖ ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌۭ دُرِّىٌّۭ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍۢ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍۢ زَيْتُونَةٍۢ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍۢ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍۢ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِىٓءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌۭ ۚ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍۢ ۗ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَٰلَ لِلنَّاسِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۭ
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is the All-Knowing of all things.
Qur'an · An-Noor 24:35
Living this NameHe is the light of the heavens and the earth. Whoever knows this asks Him for light in his heart and on his path, and knows that guidance is a light He grants.
وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ
And there will remain the Face of your Lord, the Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
Qur'an · Ar-Rahmaan 55:27
Living this NameTo Him belong majesty and honor. The believer reveres Him, loves Him and praises Him, and makes a point of calling upon Him by this Name, as the Prophet ﷺ recommended.
